Western Style Mattress

Recommended Posts

I hope to be moving into my new condo near Rayong in February and would very much like to know where I might be able to purchase a Western mattress for my bed? I was able to sleep on hard surfaces when I was young but now that I'm old I need a mattress that will allow my hip to sink in when I sleep on my side.

Judging by your name I guess you are Norwegian. So I shall not suggest IKEA !    lol

Have a look in HomePro. Even Central offers mattresses (but at a different price). No idea about quality. For the cheap ones just look around for one of the many shops on the outskirts of Pattaya.

Western style have been made and freely available in Thailand for decades.  And box springs are also available.  Toppers are sold everywhere.  There is no need for a hard bed if you do not appreciate it.  But be aware size is unique to Thailand so foreign covering is often not a good fit.  And if your bed not from here it may not be a good fit for most.

I think that mattresses in Thailand are ridiculously overpriced and extremely poor quality. Not to mention usually as hard as nails.

I bought a brand-name one for about 20,000B which gave me backache, so I went to IKEA and bought one of their foam ones for about 5,000B which I put on top of the expensive Thai one.

https://www.ikea.com/th/en/catalog/products/60272253/

That was about 6-7 years ago and the result is entirely satisfactory. My only regret is having wasted the original 20,000B. That at least is one mistake that I will never make again.

One nice thing about the foam ones is that they are sold rolled-up and are easily transportable.

As for the size, both the original expensive Thai mattress and the much cheaper IKEA one appear to be standard European sizes and my standard European sheets seem to fit them fine.

I bought a belgian made bed ensemble (inner spring mattress and bed frame...) from homepro about 5 years ago for around thb20k...best bed I ever had...with western all cotton bed linen (Ikea and lazada have them) hard to beat...outta the shower and into bed and then zzzzz...a bit of melatonin helps as well...

local mattresses don't work as most asians sleep on the hard floor with a mat...my wife useta start the night with me in bed and then I'd wake up alone...only to find her in the kids' room under a pile of rags on the floor, lift up the rags and there would be small grandchildren and other various small nieces sleeping peacefully...sorta like an easter egg hunt...
