Time for zoning - or just another day in Pattaya?

PATTAYA: -- A clip posted on Facebook has sparked a debate in the Thai community. Is it time for certain areas of Pattaya to be reigned in?

Is it time for zoning to protect children and youths from the worst excesses of the resort?

For most Pattaya people the sight of a scantily clad maiden dressed to kill in the street is more likely to provoke comments about the girl's shapely curves and availability rather than any sense of outrage, reported Thairath.

But a video posted on the Pattaya Watchdog fan page claiming to have been shot in Pattaya Soi 6 caused a lot of comment from netizens.

The video shows a comely lass approach a pick-up in the street and have a conversation with the occupants. Her attire is somewhat revealing and would be likely to attract wolf-whistles from most red blooded members of the opposite sex.

However, many online commentators cried foul.

Comments were broadly in two camps: Camp One were those that thought this was just normal in Pattaya. There was nothing unusual in her behavior or dress. She was probably working.

Camp two, however, said that Pattaya soi 6 is a public place where children and youth might see what was going on. That is not appropriate and the government should consider creating zones where such behavior should not be permitted.

Thais clicking on an opinion button on the Thai Rath site that reported this story showed that 19% liked the content, 20% per cent thought it was "sanuk" (fun) while 55.6% did not like it.

The girl in the video was not available for comment.

The girl in the video was not available for comment.

She was otherwise engaged (in a short time room !).

girl ?

the weird thing is that lots of the "girls" that come to pattaya to work would have their family think they are just supporting tourism but is it some sort of denial system ?

Likely we will see what had happened eons ago in Las vegas. Hooker broads pushed out into the hinterlands as property values rise.

It always takes Thailand longer to get things done

but in time.....they always get done

if these activities go on in broad daylight in

areas where families reside, negative impacts are

sure to occur, more on impressionable young children.

unfortunately these activities have become a way of life

and protection of the young should take priority. such pleasure

should be permitted indoors and controlled environment.
