CHIANG MAI: -- A CHIANG MAI student has beaten more than 1,000 candidates to win the 12th Junior Dublin Literary Awards for Thailand for essay writing.

Kathrin Khanchanok Kemmler will now fly to Dublin to attend the International Dublin Literary Award 2017 presentation ceremony and receive a two-week English-language course.

“I couldn’t believe that I have indeed won,” Kathrin said. “To all students who are thinking about whether to join the contest, I encourage them to have a go at this.”

Held annually, the Junior Dublin Literary Awards contest involves English-language essays and this year contestants wrote under a theme of “Journey”.

Kathrin? Probably more like Catherine or Kathleen ... both funnily enough Irish names? Do I detect bias in this competition?
