Thai magic

34 posts in this topic

Hi everyone,

I've browsed the forums frequently but this is my first time posting. I've been trying to find some information on this topic but haven't had much luck so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

A little background, a family member used to live in Thailand and ended up marrying a Thai woman from Isaan for a short period. A few years back we ended up going into business with one of her daughters, we'll call her T (not related to me, from a previous marriage). We hired her to come work for us as a chef. T's sister mentioned to me once that she performed some kind of magic or ritual to make me fall in love with her. I brushed it off at the time because I thought that stuff was nonsense but recent events are causing me to seriously consider what she said.

Without going into too many details, I believe it's been causing a lot of problems both professionally and personally. I was wondering if someone here can help me or at least point me in the right direction? I don't live in Thailand and travel there would be a little difficult right now with work etc.

Thanks!

The missus just explained to me that unless you are totally consumed in your thoughts about this lady then the spell didn't work.

Forget about it.

If she is from Surin, you are <deleted>.  My wife tells me it is common practice there.

Without more details how can anyone help.

Maybe you are susceptible to hypnotism techniques.

Let me guess that this woman is attractive and not a stinking hopacrocadillopig? From this make your own conclusions about black magic.

What you're referring to (and what the reply above yours is referring to) is Thai racism against the ethnic Khmers that live in large numbers in Buriram and Surin.  It's common to adopt a form of racism against immigrants to one's country that ascribes some sort of evil, magical danger to the immigrants.

No,  she told me women in Surin have the ability to make men fall in love with them if they cast a spell.  She is from an adjoining province and has more superstitions than you can shake a stick at.  As an Isaan women , ethnic Laos,  I would suggest Thai racism is not a philosophy she subscribes to.

Welcome to  ThaiVisa, I look forward to your  fascinating insights and  razersharp observations.

Sadly, many ethnic Lao are guilty of this attitude toward ethnic Khmers as well (though there does tend to be more solidarity between the Khmer and Lao, since the Thais in general look down on them both)...in every human society, there always seems to be an ethnic or religious group that other groups decide will occupy "low man status" and be designated the "exotic other," worthy of suspicion and fear for their "strange ways," and in Thailand, that's the Khmer.

Even sadder is the pseudo intellect that is able to make snap judgments on others but unable to come to terms with the failures and disappointments of a life spent in the closet.

So what exactly are the details that this magic curse thingee is causing you ?..none of us here on TV can help you if we don't know the problems...but here is a list of possible problems..that this "magic ritual" is causing you......

1. You have an uncontrollable urge to withdraw vast amounts of cash and give it her.

2. You have promised to marry her and pay a sinsod of 4 million baht.

3. You will build her mother a new house.

4. You will buy  each of her 3 brothers brand new Toyota pickups.

???

If it's bothering you that much, get a thai friend who can translate and go visit a monk

Oh just read you don't live in Thailand.  Just ignore it then.

Here in Isaan the lady would be called

'Mourn dumb' (my spelling) and they have a big following. My mother in law has a cyst on her wrist

It oozez pus (sorry if you are eating)

She won't go the hospital, because she believes she will die there

Instead, she goes to this woman, who smears Thai Whisky on it and then blows on it

She charges her 250 baht for this rediculous performance, the twice a month

She has told my mil that she has bad blood because of something she did as a young girl, and the hospital will want to cut her hand off. She won't entertain the anti biotics i have offered to buy her, my wife will not go against her wishes. This is the exact type of belief that keeps this country in the 3rd world and keeps the uneducated at heel. Along with the Amulets and all the other mumbo Jumbo how can the world take this country seriously. There was a black witch in New Orleans, I'n the 19th century who had the same grip on the slaves, Marie La Voe, was her name.

She told people they would die in 3 weeks, and they had so much belief in her, they actually did.

This kind of stuff, is still alive, well, and living in Haiti, and some parts of Africa.

Here is a thought?... how about you ignore that someone said they cast a spell, or maybe pretend there is no spell. and react accordingly assume there is no spell.

IE stop focusing on the gawd damn imaginary spell that has absolutely zero shits to do with your situation!

you <deleted>!

Work it out or don't. long distance relationships are difficult and in most cases do not end well.

first and foremost you need to figure out how she feels...

is she willing to move to the states? talk with her and figure this shit out!

Thanks!

Could point you in any direction, so it seems but if your lucky, use search function on the word 'woo-doo'. It was many years ago but one of the funniest posts in the Isaan section, of all time.

Unfortunately many villagers believe in these 'fairy stories'. I had an Isaan g/f who was well into the black magic and her friends told me that she has paid to have spells put on people. Years ago, I remember going to some old shack in the jungle where a young girl was supposed to perform magic (for money). I think the Magic was finding gullible suckers, but HeyHoo, whatever rocks your boat.
Don't think they understood when I told them that I believed in 'The Soup Dragon' only.
