A police motorcycle chasing a car hit a pedestrian in Phetchaburi province early Sunday, killing one police officer and injuring another and the pedestrian.

Pol Corporal Paitoon Chujit died at the scene of the accident, while Pol Senior Sgt-Major Siriphan Suamsiri broke both his arms and the pedestrian, Luca Sukprasert, 22, suffered serious head injuries. Luca is of mixed Italian and Thai descent.

Pol Captain Komsan Phum-ngern, deputy inspector-general of Muang Phetchaburi Station, said his team was manning a checkpoint when they noticed that a car suddenly made a U-turn and sped away, arousing suspicions. Paitoon and Siriphan chased after the vehicle.

“Their motorcycle was speeding when a pedestrian cut in front of them to cross the street. The cop could not apply the brakes in time,” Komsan said.

I think the Thai police should refrain from chasing cars with a small motor bike as shown in the picture.  If they are going to chase vehicles, they should be given a properly equipped vehicle with blinking lights, siren and, best yet, four wheels.

Or even better, they could borrow an APC from the army! Or rent one?

Well... that sums it up. we know who is to blame and who not to.

well prepared grounds for dropping any liability charge for future damage claims... SMH

You are correct of course, blinking lights and a siren would give it a certain presence

It would need lots of power to be able to outrun most other vehicles on the road , plus highly trained and genuinely skilled drivers, otherwise the results would be worst than we have here
