Elderly man hangs himself from tree in front of Government House

By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- An elderly man tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from a tree in front of Government House, but the knot on the loincloth noose slipped and fell to the ground.

He sustained minor injuries.

Put Intra, 70, made the attempt on his life at about 10.40am on Monday after he filed a complaint with the public complain-receiving centre at the PM’s Office in front of Government House.

The old man from Kanchanaburi province ran to a tree next to the fence in front of the centre and a bus stop. He climbed a ladder next to the tree and used his loincloth to hang himself.

After he fell, police took him to Vajira Hospital. He suffered bruising to the left leg.

Lieutenant Sanaya Paisarn, deputy inspector of Dusit Police Station, said Put would not be charged and officials were waiting for his relatives to take him home.

Put arrived at the public complaint-receiving centre at about 10am to ask for a plot of farmland.

He said his land had been seized under a court order after he guaranteed a loan for his relative, who failed to honour the debt.

Sad story but how many here have put up assets for a friend / relative for a loan that was not repaid?

The moral compass of a lot of the indig here, needs seriously recalibrating.

I bet the relative will still not cough up for the loan.

Many posters use the expresion "family first" but in reality it is self and money leading that race.

Thank God, this is only a "Thai-Thing". No Farang would ever consider loaning money to a Thai. Unless it's a "Thai-Family-Member" of course.

Cheers.

Loaning money to a relative here in Thailand is just plain stupid

The sheer effrontery of the man! In front  of Government House! Can't you hear the would-be hi-so's ?It just shows the rural peasants, along with everything else they can't have, also lack a sense of dignity. Harrumph!

I wonder why?
