Still they can't spell in Pattaya - now foreigners get more confused by NUA or NUAE!

Oh and remember this is where they wish to lower the the English level test for Thai Teachers, go figure that result ,,,,,,,,,,

Let's remember that this is Thailand and the official language of the country is Thai.  So anything that the Thai's do to help us farangs should be appreciated.  I think anyone with a little intelligence can look at the sign in Thai and see that the Thai spelling of neua is the same.  So whether it's nua or neua, what's the difference.  Most will most likely already know what the sign means.  We should be a little appreciative of the fact that the Thai's try to translate their road signs into English to help us.  So why do we complain so much.  I just don't understand.

The post office in Jomtien used to read something like Comp Tien, Jomtien seems like a French corruption of it's real name. :coffee1:

Sanook reported that expats and tourists were contacting Thai media to complain about more irregular spellings in Pattaya.

Expats : Let me guess ... the retired teacher type (lots of those in Pattaya) who has nothing better to do than sending letters to the editor : 'Sir, it is with the deepest consternation that I bring to your attention to the following fact ..."

Tourists : Let me guess ... the type who have not quite understood that this country is not a remote province of England, Australia or the US, but an independant kingdom (politically, if not economically) which actually has its own language and yes !  its own alphabet ! Wow !!! The English version is therefore not a translation it's a transliteration, therefore open to interpretation and personal choice.

Thus, no spelling police here may complain if people spell Esarn instead of Isaan or Isan or Ee Sorn or whatever the hell they want to spell it. The bottom line is NO NORMAL PERSON GIVES A SH*T ! Or is it sh*te ? :saai:
